For the children....
Today, the Supreme Court of the United States handed down a decision that will change families lives. Whether you are for or against the Supreme Court decision, one thing that I hope we can all agree on is that more children will be afforded inclusion no matter what their families look like. I hold that idea close to my heart because I came from a blended family--termed a "non-traditional" family to many in our country. And when I married the man I loved, divorced with children, I created a "non-traditional" family. Many times in the course of my life I have found that my status as a stepchild or a stepmother was not as accepted as those in the traditional mom/dad/2.2 kids home. I cannot know the pain associated with greater forms of discrimination. However, I can hope and pray that families of all shapes and sizes, colors, creeds, religions and sexual orientation will be recognized not because of any of those attributes but because of the love shared between and amongst the members of those families.
