Dad's Day
This weekend we will celebrate fathers across the country. Perhaps you will spend it grilling out or taking him to a movie. Maybe your kids will buy their dad a tie or make him a special card. But what we are celebrating is not just the role of father, but what that role means in our lives.
One of my favorite quotes regarding fathers, “Any man can be a father. It takes someone special to be a dad.” Though the author of this quote remains anonymous, I suspect that we all have thought that very same thing at one time or another. Biology is not the sole creator of families. Families are made through a commitment to loving and taking care of one another. Perhaps you are like me and have a “dad” who didn’t give birth to you, but made the commitment many years ago to love and take care of you. That’s a dad to me.
